Wasuremashta!
Damn. I have no idea how I forgot this but last saturday I went to the Tokyo Gameshow. Tokyo gameshow = e3 which is open to the public. Which basically means less nerds but much more people. The day started out with me waiting in line. As soon as I got through the doors I ran over to the line for Advent Children with my friend Anthony. Waited in that goddamn line for a long time but oh man it was worth it. These big doors open and we were led into a room by a small japanese woman in her square enix outfit and a headset who was babbling something I couldnt understand but she led us to a giant video screen. I was a little disapointed to see that the first thing on the screen was not advent children but the disapointment quickly dispersed as soon as I realized its a new sweet short ad for Kingdom Hearts 2. I got so pumped up, I almost punched some small asian guy in the face. There were then some other shorts for other square games, finally advent children. It was just a stupid short ad. I was so pissed of. I was about to cause a riot, until... UNTIL, they opened the doors and led us to a room of goggles and headphones. They had this system so no one would videotape the movie. They then turned it on, and we got to watch 20 or 25 minutes of FF7: Advent Children. It was awsome. I couldnt understand all of it, but everyone is in it. The fights they showed were so fantastic, I pretty much had a semi through the whole thing.
I then got to walk around and played some great games. I got to play the two new naruto games, viewtiful joe 2, oh and Halo 2 was definitly playable and there in force. Heres a cool little note you can play as the covenant. Too top all of this off, I walked in between the two rooms of the convention center and there were cosplayers everywhere. Cosplay here in Japan is also a completly different story, no man fays here. Hardcore. They would just line up against the walls and all these guys with cameras would just line up to take pictures of them. A bit strange but some amazing costumes.
One thing else to talk about, the booth babes. The booth babes were pretty much the typical fare. Models payed to stand there and look like they give a shit about anything there while wearing some skimpy costume. The things I found interesting were not the girls themselves (though some were pretty damn hot) but the people reacting to them. I got some pictures of people video tapping some chick who was posted up on a car wearing a micro skirt. The sick thing was they were videotapping an upskirt shot, in front of everyone, openly for a very long time. I would say it was as funny as it was disturbing.
The Gameshow was not as big or as grand as e3 but it was still pretty damn cool. Plus I can see a lot more at the gameshow because I was a head taller then everyone there.
Fiesta!
So I had a pretty good weekend unfortunatly I cant rememeber any of it now besides sunday. Sunday I went to the Mexicana Fiesta! with my host family (minus the father of course), all three mexicans in Japan were there. It was nice to eat some mexican food, even though a little sketch to eat the japanese prepared tacos. Small things like cabbage in a taco was a bit disconcerning. The fiesta in Odaiba, Odaiba is awsome. Almost every futuristic or messed up looking building that you have seen pictures of from japan is in Odaiba. Also there is a minuture statue of liberty and a sweet view of the rainbow bridge. Segoi indeed. Plus there is a Joyopolis which my tokyo guide describes as a vr and video game center, unfortunatly I didnt have time to visit it but I did get a chance to visit the giant ball at the fuji tv building. I learned a lot about crazy ass tv shows which I dont understand and are possibly giving me seizures when I watch them. I will put up some pictures of Gorey later. Oh dear god Gorey...
Me at the Ebisu beer factory and museum. The museum wasnt too interesting but the tasting bar was very nice.
Sangria party last monday. It was a good time, at Kanakos mansion. Graham didnt really know what goes into Sangria but it had a lot of random spices his host mom gave him. Once it started wearing down Dom and I went ot a combini and picked up some Mitsuya Cider, and mixed up some brandy and orange liquer into the remaining Sangria it was good stuff. The small get together with Yoko, Kanako, Graham and Dominic was a refreshing change from the big groups and nomihodais.
Hooray for old people
So this week I had monday off of school because it was a kyujitzu. No one could tell me what the holiday was just that they were glad we had school off. My host mom finally clued me in that it was old persons day or be nice to old people day. I asked my friend Yoko yesterday if she was nice to an old person and she said she called one on the phone so who knows whats going on with that day. This week is awsome though, yesterday was off I have wednesdays off because I always do, and I have Thursday off because its the fall equinox. I dont know why it matters that its the fall equinox but who cares its a day off school. Maybe it will give me a chance to catch up on work but probably not. Saturday is Tokyo gameshow ( http://tgs.cesa.or.jp/english/index.htm) and I cant wait, even though I went to E3 this is more exciting because it will probably have new naruto games. Also sunday is a Fiesta Mexicana in Odaiba so probably will be able to get some acutal mexican food and that will complete and awsome week.
So right now close this page go to your local cd shoperia or illegal downloading service and get yourself some Kishidan. Or better yet go to their web site and look at their video its probably one of the greatest feats mankind has ever accomplished. While speaking on music I have to say I have found a lot of good music here but its wierd that it seems they are like 5 years behind the US in taste, for example ska punk is still really big. Which is pretty cool for me because its like reliving 9th grade all the time.
The most riced out van I have ever seen in my life. It was parked outside of the arcade next to the video rental store. It really speaks for it self, but I would say its very segoi.
Also after the amazing store, I went to an amazing Kaiten Sushi restaurant with my host mom called Sushi Ro. Its a chain only in chiba but humongous three different converyer belts. The food was so damn good and my mom kept ordering me more so I didnt have to feel guilty about gorging myself.
Pics
Well I have decided I am going to leave my computer here at the center so I will be able to load pics up now consistantly. Unfortunatly the site that I was going to use to dump all my pictures into an album sucks and only unploads three pics at a time only has 100mb of space and doesnt accept a lot of my pictures. So i will only upload pics one at a time to this site, and i will have to make new posts for some of the old pics I already have taken. So unless I come up with a better plan this is whats gonna happen.
The most awsome place in the world. I just visited this store yesterday with my host Mom. Its a video rental store, used game store, used bookstore, fishing shop, clothing store, toy store, and finally also it has slot machines. This place had every single NES, SNES, SEGA, and all the other systems with every game for super cheap. I was just speachless it was like mecca. I cant wait already for when I go back next sunday.
Taiko no Testujin
So I found a nice hole here in Japan where I can unearth some ground and drop my money in and then light a little fire until it all burns up. This is basically the best analogy I have for the biggest addiction I have ever had and that is Taiko no Testujin. Taiko is a game a little like Dance Dance Revolution, but instead of tooling around a pad fake dancing there are two big taiko drums and two whomping sticks. You basically pick a song and then go nuts on the drum. The music is great stuff too; lots of Jpop, classic music, and even a Naruto song. The most dangerous thing about this game is that there is a machine in the food court of a mall which is dangerously close to the campus of the school. This same mall has a nomihodai in the bottom floor so basically I wake up after a hard night of drinking with sore hands and I cant understand where all my money went. Yesterday I visited Akihibara for the first time. I dont know what was more increadible the vast amounts of future technology or the fact there are buildings full of only anime, toys, games, or freaky porn. Tokyo really is an amazing city. I could live in Akihabara for a month and still not have enough time to explore everything. Hopefully some pictures up next monday, waiting for a sunny day to haul my computer to school and I forgot today.
No more umeshi for a long time...
Oh god after last night no more umeshi for a while. My money is dwindling more and more. Tonights yakiniku no tabehodai is not going to help the monitary situation much either plus I am off to akihabara for the first time today so after the electronics store, the anime buildings and the fairy shop I am gonna be broke. Next week I`ll just eat as the Ruskus everyday. inigiri will be my new food staple. Plus I advise everyone to check it NIN NIN, its a movie staring a former J pop boy band member who has a cooking show on Japanese T.V. I would go see it myself if it wasnt like 20 bucks a movie.
A note about electronics.
So basically I think I am litterly in love with my cell phone. It is sick and an afront to god himself but it is so incredible. I`m pretty sure I would kill if the phone c-mailed me and told me to do it. So basically the phone is also a 2mp camera takes movies, two screens, has email (its own email box) c-mail (like text messaging), service everywhere, connects to the internet, can be used as a remote control, can send my phone number to another phone including pictures through an infrared port on it, and much much more. Now here is the best part it was free, goddamn thats right this sweet ass device was free. I find myself petting it sometimes.
